How to free up space on your phone?

To avoid paying for additional storage or getting a new phone, in order to free up space on your iPhone or Android device, you should begin removing anything that you don’t need or use on your device – such as apps, photographs or videos. Remember, the larger the file you delete, the more space you will free up on your device to increase phone storage.

You may think that you need everything on your phone, but when you begin sifting through your device, you will realise just how much isn’t necessary. Whether it be an app you’ve only played once or twice, or a cluster of screenshots or blurry photographs that you forgot to delete from a few months ago.

This is particularly advisable if your photo gallery has become filled with memes or irrelevant photos from your WhatsApp conversations. ou can stop this by editing your iPhone’s WhatsApp settings and on Android too.

It’s an all too common occurrence for Apple devices to say that your iPhone storage is full, even when you don’t have much on your phone. Here are some top tips to manage your iPhone storage:

  • To remove an app, simply unlock your iPhone and tap and hold onto any app that you want to get rid of. This should create the apps to shake, and click the “x” in the left-hand corner of each app.
  • To remove photos and videos, it is a simple process. Simply open up your camera roll, press “select” in the top right-hand corner and begin selecting the photos that you wish to remove. Once you have finished, click the bin icon in the bottom right-hand corner.

(Please note: If you have accidentally deleted a picture you wanted to keep, it’s okay. All you need to do is find your “Recently Deleted” album and recover it.)

Another way to free up space on iPhones is by clearing your cache, which collects data from your internet browser and your apps. To delete this, you must follow these steps:

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Safari”
  3. Find and select “Clear History and Website Data”
  4. Next confirm “Clear History and Data”

Alternatively, if you are still struggling to find iPhone storage after following our suggestions, you might want to consider purchasing additional iCloud storage for your phone. This can be bought for as little as 79p per month – just under £10 a year (£9.48).

Is your phone storage space getting low? You may want to free up space on your Android phone. First things first, just like for iPhones, you should look through your smartphone to delete some items to clear storage space.

Ways to manage your Android storage:

There are various ways to fix storage issues on an Android device, these include:

Clear your device’s cache:

  1. Open “Browser” (or “Internet” on Samsung devices) and select the “Menu” button – this can be found by clicking onto the three white dots in the top right-hand side of the screen
  2. Select “Settings”, and then “Privacy and Security”
  3. At the top of the menu, press “Clear Cache” (or “Clear form data” on Samsung models)

You can also do the same if you use Google Chrome too – follow the same steps as above, and select “Clear Browsing Data” – ensuring that the boxes next to ‘Cache’ and ‘Cookies, site data’ are checked

Just like Apple devices, Android users can also purchase extra cloud storage on their smartphone devices. However, unlike Apple customers, Android phones can use wireless hard drives to transfer bulky files, apps or data without much hassle at all.

Another way to increase storage space on your Android is by utilising your phones built-in storage tool. This allows you to see what is taking up the most space on your phone before deleting it, which means you don’t have to guess what’s taking up space on your device.

Furthermore, some Android phones come with microSD slots, which when combined with the right memory card can improves the phone’s memory significantly. This is ideal if you use your phone for taking lots of pictures or playing games.

Alternatively, if your phone storage still doesn’t work once following these handy steps, you may want to consider getting a new phone where you can start afresh – particularly if your phone is considered “old”.
